Strutt that Mutt
This last Saturday, which also was the last day of May as well, we (the family) participated in the event known nationally as “Strutt Your Mutt” a 1.5K walk of one’s dog that helps raise money for unsheltered animals. Things like finding homes for said animals or sheltering them until a home can be found.
The event consisted of us walking our dog abouts Sugarhouse Park. And let me tell you, there where dogs. There where a lot of people there with a lot of different dogs here’s and theres and everywheres. Our dog Baue (or however one spells Bo) was so very much excited to be in the company of that many different fellow canines. There was that one radio station… you know the one that doesn’t really play much good stuff any more. The DJ was around livening up the place and trying mightily to get licked by the pooches. Most where a bit to timid to do anything.
We did see at least three other Golden Doodles (Our pups breed)
and one black Golden Doodle (which makes it not all that golden in my opinion) that was the pup of two Golden Doodle parents. We had shaved Baue right before this big event and so he looked most naked next to these other dogs. But man he needed it. He smelled like a dirty cow, and giving him a bath when his hair’s all in is a pain in the keester. These other doodles (which I did not get a pic of) where very well groomed and oh so soft. Put into question our dog parenting/hygine abilities a bit more then we found comfortable.
So we just stared at the lady with the Irish Wolfhound for a good long time to absolve our guilt. Irish Wolfhounds are like
little horses, but uglier. This thing was monsterous. Notice how how it comes up to that kid. It’s not a very big picture but the dog was ginormous.
Along the walk they also had pails of water for the dogs to drink from. Our dog isn’t much of a community water drinker. He isn’t much of a public anything, cept public displays of licking, and so wouldn’t touch the stuff, didn’t need to mark any tree’s nor left any presents for us to pick up after him. Although he is intensely curious about every stick, tree and pole that has ever been pee’d on.
Vinny was relatively happy during the whole event, participating in his own favorite activity, getting pushed ar
ound in a stroller at brisk speeds while he sleeps. Though he did get a bit cooked from the sun occasionally sneaking into the stroller unbeknown to us.
Another funny thing bout this event was the start/finish sign was on backwards. Ok not all that funny now that I type that up, but let me tell you, that had me laughing for a good 5 minutes at the idea.
There was also a big lake towards the end, and so we let Baue go out and go a swimming (as far as his leash would let him anyways, which wasn’t very far) Man he had a good time. A lot of people where just letting their pups jump in and chase water after having walked all around the park. It was pretty kewl and I was sorely tempted to let our dog off his leash to get the full swimming experience. But I was to afraid he’d mistake a small child for a dog and try to hump them once freed from his leash.
After the walk, there where a bunch of booths one could visit (Liz had one a free grooming from spinning one wheel, and a Frisbee from waiting in line for like an hour and spinning that wheel) and some contests like:
- best trick
- best kiss
- costume
- biggest
- smallest
- stinkiest
- worse speller
We didn’t see much of that, cause after a bit of trying to keep our pup from humping other peoples dogs (he is neutered I have no idea why he likes to do that) the sun out of Vinny’s eyes, the camera in one piece and trying to push the stroller through the crowds, we had enough and left.
Still a good experience but glad we left when we did, it was a bit much. All pictures here taken with the Nokia N95-3, however if you want some real impressive shots, check out Liz’s facebook album bout the same thing… now thats some impressive pics.
