Update to the site

It’s weird typing this from a keyboard instead of my phone. I’m so used to trying to find a mobile blogging client that I haven’t used this feature in a very long time.

While trying to fix/improve things I made a couple of changes to the site in hopes of speeding things up. The real test will be when Rachel
views the site and continues to complain about how “slow” it is.

These are not any spiffy improvements mind you so no need to get overly excited about it.

  1. Lowered Thumbnail size and quality, dropping them to about 30Kb instead of 60. This still is to high if you ask me and will be messing with this further.
  2. Lowered fullsize image size to 640×480 and also dropped the quality a bit, this reduced images from 700kb to about 60-80… That I can live with
  3. Fixed the link to the phone blog that had the speed sign limit, was linking to the full sized image just resized, so all of it would have to load, another 800kb just to view, that should be fixed.
  4. Spelled Cereal correctly

So the big problem’s been how these mobile clients handle image updates. I haven’t found a good solution and it will probably come down to re-editing posts or saving as drafts to update. Also tweaked around the recent comments style and added a reply/quote functionality to comments.

Scribe Test

This is just another mobile blogging tool. One annoying thing is that you cant see the T9 status, nor spell words easily.

However, the native Html support for things like:

  • carriage return
  • new paragraph
  • href link
  • image tags
  • the more tag
  • and open and close tags which is what I used on this list

Make it kind of nice to use. Though the lack of T9 status is really annoying. Plus no support for file uploading/thumbnail creation.
note: just discoverd that he I rotate the screen I can see the T9 status. Doesn’t help that I can no longer use the keyboard though

I do like the ability to edit tags and categories. Much needed. All around it posts text better them wavelog and the lifeblog app

Also it saves the post as a draft, allowing you to edit in the future. You can also edit existing posts as well, using the Html view. With some planning you could link to images, but it would be nice to have them auto thumbnailed, something nobody can offer a good solution for.

Cereal for the first time

Chowing Down
Digging that food

So for the first time Vinny had solid food. Well solid in the sense that it was mostly mushy. He likes the stuff made from juice more then formula, and I can’t blame him. Formula smells like old feet wrapped in rotted cheese.
Loving it all over him

Sink Bathing

This Tuesday we bathed little vinny in the sink. Of course its not like we had told vinny about the tub snakes and he was to sacred to sit in the tub. We’d wait at least until he is two before we tell him about tub snakes Over at Grandma\'s house

The Joy of phone blogging

So I got this app called Wavelog that lets me blog from my phone. After some time I finally got it working right. I had to create a php.ini file to allow of to upload movies and audio. Even that is a bit flakey. If I go in and edit the blog, it changes the embeded object to flash. Which, by the way, does’nt play any longer. And don’t get of started on the whole “tables are a good idea” concept of constructing the post. Any way enjoy the pic I snaped while out geocaching.
